Only 3 1/2 years, eh (at least I'm pretty sure it was fall of 2015)? Things are really speeding up in the courts.

It's a very fine line between laws that prevent criminals from harming the innocent and laws that turn the innocent into criminals.

“The Crown's position is that prostitution laws aren't meant to protect sex-trade workers, but rather criminalize those who buy sexual services and therefore decrease demand for the work.”

“The Crown's witnesses argued the sex trade is inherently violent and based on a foundation of inequality, and punishing the purchasing of such services reduces demand.”

So the crown has all but outright said they’re absolutely infringing upon any one involved in sex work’s charter rights and freedoms and they’re fine with doing that because they think the sex trade is inherently violent anyways so what’s it matter if they make it that much more likely the sex workers will face violence?

Because that’s exactly how I took it...

It's not like Megan Walker to allow herself to be quoted without attribution.

The crown says the prostitution laws aren't meant to protect sex trade workers. He seems to be admitting that C36 is not following the Supreme Court ruling which struck down the original law because it was endangering sex workers. He sounds very much like a Harper conservative.

It pisses me off that these scum are saying they were just “protecting” the ladies that worked for them.
I agree with their defence, it’s too bad it’s these cocksuckers who are using it!
