Default more arrests in human trafficing

Two face human trafficking charges related to ad targeting students: London Police (CBC News)

Two people from London have been charged with human trafficking after an investigation into an online ad targeting students, police say.

The London Police Service received a complaint last Tuesday from a 28-year-old woman who responded to the ad, which promised students a "great opportunity" to make hundreds of dollars a day.

The victim ended up involved in sex work, police said in a media release on Wednesday.

Investigators believe there may be more victims and are urging them to contact the Human Trafficking Unit.

Brady Allan Decoursey (also known as Jamie), 28, and Anna-Lee Rose Giroux (also known as Carla or Pamela), 28, are facing several charges:
•Trafficking in person by recruiting
•Financial/material benefits trafficking a person over 18
•Communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining for consideration the sexual services of a person
•Advertising another person's sexual services

Decoursey has been remanded in custody, while Giroux appeared at a bail hearing on Wednesday.

Sgt. Cam Halliday, who is in charge of the Human Trafficking Unit, said police have seen more cases of trafficking involving online ads, usually directed at young women.

"They often cite quick money and they're usually related to something along the lines of modelling or the entertainment industry," Halliday said.

Police are encouraging anyone who does see these ads to do their due diligence before responding. In many cases, Halliday said the ads are "too good to be true."

"Usually they'll have a company name and we'll ask them to research that," he said. "And also ... a lot of these are targeting women in their teens. Speak with your parents, or someone that you trust and just explain what you're thinking of doing."

Lock them up for 20 years!
Those people are scum.
